Bulkhead, Docks, And Piers

Bulkheads are installed to retain soil and may be installed using a variety of materials. Pricing on each type is based on the linear foot needed. Below is a list of the different types and information on each. Examples of Bulkhead Installation and boat docks are shown.

Wooden bulkheads

• Are usually the least expensive. They consist of pilings being driven for the supports. The 4” x 6” rough cuts are then installed for the whalers. The 2” x 8” center match is driven vertically for the sheeting. A dead man piling is  installed behind every support piling to anchor the bulkhead back. The 5/8” galvanized sag rods are installed from the support piling back to the dead men. 

Vinyl bulkheads

• Are constructed of pilings being driven for the supports. The 4” x 6” rough cuts are then installed for the whalers. Vinyl sheet piling is driven to grade, and then lagged to the front whaler. Next the back whaler is positioned and bolted to the sheets.

Concrete Bulkheads

• Pilings are used for the supports. Four rows of 5/8” rebar are run through the pilings. Two rows of #6 or #10 highway mesh wire is then attached to the rebar. One row will be installed behind the rebar and one will be installed in the front. Bulkhead will be poured with 4000-pound mix concrete. After pouring concrete, forms will be wrecked and hauled away. The bulkhead will be anchored back to dead men with galvanized all-thread rods if necessary.
